About Chicago

Stretched along the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago is the nation’s third largest city and the namesake of the only river in the world that flows backwards.

It’s also home to more high-tech jobs than Seattle and Silicon Valley. With two major international airports, O’Hare and Midway offer more than 3000 flights a day, making it one of the most accessible destinations in the nation.

Train stations are conveniently located at both airports: you’ll find the O’Hare station under the parking garage and the Midway El station just east of the airport, accessible by an overhead walkway. Getting to most downtown stops from either airport takes about 30 minutes.

If you prefer, the Airport Express shuttle service provides transportation to and from the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Hotel. For more information, contact Airport Express at 888-284-3826 or at www.airportexpress.com.

Chicago provides wonderful cultural and leisure attractions: spectacular shopping, incredible dining, internationally renowned museums, exciting nightlife and much more.

Chicago’s a big city, but it’s remarkably easy to get around. Convention facilities, cultural institutions, shopping, dining and entertainment options are concentrated in a relatively small area.

Only minutes from downtown, McCormick Place is conveniently located by foot or public transportation. As you navigate the streets of Chicago, keep in mind:

  • Chicago is built on a grid system: 8 blocks = one mile.
  • All addresses are from a single point: Madison and State.
  • North of Madison has a north address, south has a south address and so on.
  • The lake is east.

Schedule some time to really enjoy Chicago.

Discover extraordinary architecture and stunning public art. Sink your teeth into a whopping steak or a legendary deep-dish pizza. Shop to your heart’s content along the Magnificent Mile. Experience world-class museums such as the Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Soak up some sun at one of the city’s 29 lakefront beaches.

It’s too early to get the 2009 baseball schedules, but if the White Sox or Cubs are in town, getting there is easy. Both ball parks are on the Red Line and the El is preferred by most Chicagoans since parking can be hard to come by, especially at Wrigley.

Chicago has an incredibly diverse economy. The Chicago region is home to over 7,100 companies who support $35 billion in high-tech output each year. Chicago is the North American hub of fiber optic telecommunications and is also the number one area for manufacturing. The restaurant selection is also world renown.

We offer just a few suggestions because there are so many that are so good, you simply can’t go wrong.
